Cassette Music Scene in San Francisco

From Arndt Peltner | 04:06

San Francisco is a centre of Noise, Industrial and experimental music. And this scene of musicians and music enthusiasts goes back in time to release and share on cassette tapes.

Blinkylogo_small Dozenz of so called "Tape Labels" have sprung up in and around San Francisco, mostly featuring Noise, Industrial and experimental music. You can find the music as well on websites, but to own the physical release you need to have a tape recorder. Released in small numbers with artistic and one of a kind packaging, these tapes are representing a vibrant underground music scene in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I spoke to Julia Mazawa of "Nice Ass" and Daniel Hintz of "Tenderloin Electronics".

From Emily Corwin | 04:44

LaDarrell Hagans is something of a full-time volunteer for Deval Patrick's reelection campaign for Governor of Massachusetts. Although LaDarrell knows Patrick's platform like the back of his hand, it isn't just politics that inspires him. It's a sense of purpose and community.

Default-piece-image-1 Dan Scary was an amateur skydiver in California who jumped out of airplanes thousands of times before his last fall. After he died of a heart attack in mid-flight, his daughter, filmmaker Kia Simon, and her musician husband created an electronica song with accompanying video. In it, they ponder the mystery of death, and the transcendence in making the Big Leap to the Other Side while free-falling thousands of feet through the air. The video was later featured on MTV.
