With the mantle of folk protest singer off his shoulders, Bob Dylan launched into a flurry of creativity in the mid-1960's. His sound exploded with electric instruments and a blend of folk, rock, blues, and gospel influences. By the late 60's, Dylan was singing country music like he had grown up in Nashville. His lyrics still commented on the world, but through a wider lens that mixed personal reflection with mystical and surreal images. In this hour, we'll hear how Dylan found his own unique voice, and how that changed rock and roll for a long time to come. DENNIS WILSON - PACIFIC OCEAN BLUE In 1977 Dennis Wilson's Pacific Ocean Blue became the first solo LP to be released by a member of the legendary Beach Boys. Dennis, the band's surfer, drummer and free spirit, emerged from the shadow of his older brother, pop genius Brian Wilson, and shocked everyone with a sound and style unlike any other. More than 30 years later, it stands as one of the 1970s great cult-classic albums and a crucial puzzle-piece in the Wilson family's long musical history.

Throughout this one-hour special, Dennis Wilson's friends and family recall how he developed his musical voice - one that was full of surprises, but also one that reflected Wilson's dark, moody life. While acclaim grew for both his Beach Boys contributions and his solo material, Wilson's creative output was sadly stifled by his hard and fast lifestyle. His plans to follow Pacific Ocean Blue with an even grander album, Bambu, were left unfinished at the time of his drowning death in 1983, but many songs from those last sessions were filled with a hopefulness that belied his tragic decline.

Interview subjects include Brian Wilson, Dennis Wilson's first wife, Carole Bloom, former Beach Boys manager Jim Guercio, Pacific Ocean Blue co-producer Gregg Jakobson, and engineer Jon Hanlon, Bambu collaborator Carli Munoz, and journalist Anthony DeCurtis. We also hear from Dennis Wilson, himself, courtesy of a rare radio visit at the time Pacific Ocean Blue was released. Many tracks from that album, as well as the long lost Bambu sessions are heard throughout this one-hour program hosted by noted rock historian and Smithereens drummer Dennis Diken.

FROM ELVIS IN MEMPHIS takes your listeners inside these recording sessions, which many believe to be His finest recordings since leaving Sun Records.  Over a two-week span in early 1969, producer Chips Moman and his “Memphis Boys” studio band backed Elvis on a mix of pop, country and R&B tunes unlike any other Elvis Presley recordings. 

These highly productive sessions produced the original FROM ELVIS IN MEMPHIS album, as well as the singles "Suspicious Minds," "In the Ghetto" and "Kentucky Rain" – three of Elvis’ three most played songs on radio stations today.

Interview subjects include producer Chips Moman and a few of the musicians from these recordings - Reggie Young, Bobby Wood, Bobby Emmons, Donna Jean Godchaux, and Gene Chrisman.

THE GAZILLIONTH (OR SO) MONTY PYTHON RADIO SPECIAL A new one-hour Monty Python radio documentary hosted Keith Olbermann. Monty Python debuted on the BBC nearly 40 years ago, and their mix of everything absurd, obscure and English has inspired generations comedians - from the professionals to the amateur line-quoters. Their skits, films and songs continue to be both poignant and funny today, whether experienced for the first or gazillionth time on TV, film, disc (plastic or vinyl), broadway or anytime a devoted fan is confronted with a cheese shop, a dead parrott or a shrubbery. Between excerpts of their finest moments, Cast members Eric Idle, John Cleese and Terry Jones (with help from Python geek/historian Kim Howard Johnson) look back on the men, the myths, and legends behind them. Cameras rolled as Brandi Carlile and Shooter Jennings coaxed country legend, Tanya Tucker, back into the studio. They didn't know if the footage would ever become a film. They didn't even know if they'd wind up with an album. This program, The Return of Tanya Tucker, details the inside stories behind both...While I'm Livin', 2020 Grammy winner for Best Country Album and Best Country Song ("Bring My Flowers Now"), and the documentary feature, The Return of Tanya Tucker. 

The second of two one-hour documentaries on The Byrds, the continuously groundbreaking band who bridged the gaps between The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, the Beach Boys, the Los Angeles psychedelic underground and classic country. Each hour is hosted by singer-songwriter Laura Cantrell, and covers a distinct period of their prolific history that can either be aired as one two-part series, or as your choice of two insightful one-hour programs. FARTHER ALONG picks up the story in 1968 and details how the Byrds' legendary Act I was followed by one of rock history's most fascinating second acts. Despite their lower record sales, the Byrds' later incarnations alternately defined and re-defined "country-rock," thanks to the influential contributions by folks like Gram Parsons and guitarist Clarence White. As with the first segment, FARTHER ALONG feature the wide range of music that made The Byrds of the 60s most influential bands, along with comments by its two longest-lasting members: Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman. Writers David Fricke, Anthony DeCurtis, Lenny Kaye and Byrds historian Sid Griffin are also interviewed. Instead of being directed by the singular vision of one leader, The Byrds were consistently led by everybody's contributions - from their original five members to the musicians involved with their later years. "They all brought something new and something defining," says journalist David Fricke, "and it all became part of the Byrds sound. They didn?t change the Byrds to the degree that it changed the sound. What they did became the Byrds." In retrospect, most people think of Johnny Cash as always being in the public eye, and always being the Man in Black. In fact, Cash's career was a turbulent one with wild ups and downs and surprises.
