A legacy is a gift from visionaries passed on to a new generation. This week on Wind & Rhythm we take a look at a couple of different legacies. The first is the contribution of the Eastman Wind Ensemble at the Eastman School of Music at the University of Rochester in New York to the beginnings of the modern wind band movement. We feature selections from all four conductors throughout its history including Frederick Fennell, Clyde Roller, Donald Hunsberger, and current conductor Mark Scatterday.

The second legacy is this radio show, started by our late host, Doug Brown. For ten years, this show has sought to promote wind band music to as large an audience as possible. Nearly 40 million of us in the US and even more around the world have grown up playing in band programs, and as we well know, this is amazing music! Wind & Rhythm continues into the future with this first program featuring Doug’s good friend Dr. David Lawrence as host. He wrote the show’s theme music “Fanfare for Doug”, performed by the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Brass, conducted by Jack Stamp.
