The3degree_shelenscott002_small The Three Degrees are a female musical trio originally from Philadelphia. They were formed in the early 1960's by record producer Richard Barrett who was responsible for The Chantels, Little Anthony & The Imperials and Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers. Richard Barrett selected four girls from a local high school for his next two new acts. Three of them became the Three Degrees modeled after the Chantels, and the fourth a solo artist who would become interchangeable with the group. Helen Scott was one of the girls chosen by Richard Barrett in the early days. Helen talks about the history of the group from the 1960's to the present. The Group has recorded for record labels like Swan, Roulette, Philadelphia International, Epic and Ariola. Their hits have been Maybe, When Will I See You Again, Dirty Ol’ Man, TSOP (The Sound Of Philadelphia), Ebb Tide, MacArthur Park plus others.

SEGMENT THREE:   Helen Scott  of the Three Degrees talks about the days when the group recorded for Swan Records, then Roulette Records, she talked about the band MFSB, former member of the Three Degrees Shelia Ferguson and the 1970 hit "Maybe", including the original version in which she sang lead, plus discussions about appearing on television and performing overseas.

Jerry Martini is a saxophonist and original member of Sly and the Family Stone. Together they recorded many hits like Family Affair, Higher, Stand, Everybody Is a Star, Hot Fun In The Summer Time, Fun, Dance To The Music, If You Want Me To Stay, Everyday People, Sing A Simple Song, You Can Make It If You Try, Thank You Falettinme Be Mice Elf Again, etc.

Jerry joined Howard Burchette as they talked about the history of
Sly & the Family Stone and their music. Today Jerry fronts a Sly & the Family Stone tribute band called The Family Stone Project with founding member of Sly & the Family Stone Cynthia Robinson.
